Hot-Spring Bath

Soak in a hot spring, Taiwan’s volcanic past has left abundant reserves of geothermal energy all over the island, and there are over 100 hot mineral springs scattered around the island, many of which are in the Datun Mountains of the Yangmingshan National Park.

Things to Remember when Bathing in a Natural Spring

  1. Before dipping in, wash your body thoroughly and do not pour dirty water into the pool. Body scrubbing and smoking should be done outside the pool.
  2. Women with long hair should wear bathing caps when entering the pool.
  3. Before dipping into the pool, shower in warm water. To get the body used to the heat, start from the tips of hands and feet and work your way up your legs and waist.
  4. Do not go bathing 30mins before eating or one hour after eating.
  5. Do not go into a hot-spring pool after drinking, since the heat tends to increased heartbeat and raise the blood pressure level, causing dizziness and fainting which may result in accidents.
  6. Wash your body thoroughly and warm-ups before dipping.
  7. Maintain good ventilation within the pool environment to keep air flowing.
  8. The length of time you spend in the pool depends primarily on individual preference. Generally, however, time spent in the pool should not exceed 30mins each time and should be limited to three times (three 30mins blocks) per day.
  9. If you experience shortness of breath or any discomfort in the pool, this shows that either the pool temperature is too high or you have been in the pool too long. Get out of the pool and shower in cold water to lower the temperature.
  10. Keep your towel clean and dry; don't drop it into the hot spring.
