Taiwan Currency Exchange
Taiwan currency is NT$ (New Taiwan Dollar), notes come in denominations of NT$ 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000, while coins come in units of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents.
Private money changers are rare in Taiwan, in most towns if you need to exchange for Taiwan currency you may have to do it in a government-designated hotels and banks (Office Hours Mon-Fri 0900-1530Hrs), receipts will be issued when currency is exchanged, remember to keep the receipts in order to exchange unused NT dollars before departure. Major credit cards such as American Express, Master Card, Visa, and Diners Club are accepted and traveler's checks may be cashed at foreign-exchange banks, some tourist-oriented businesses, and (by room guests) most international tourist hotels.
To prevent counterfeit, new
NT$2,000 notes was issued and discontinued the
circulation of some old notes and coins. The old
notes and coins may be exchanged for notes and
coins of equal value at Bank of Taiwan branches.
